Name: Okuma Noboru
Race: Shinigami
Aliases: The Kenpachi
Gender: Male
Age: 300
Apparent Age: 28
Height: 6'1
Weight: 145lbs
Appearance:
Personality:
Noboru can only be described as quiet and deadly. He chooses his words carefully and often times walks around with a melancholy demeanor. This is mostly attributed to the mask he wears over the bottom of his face, which makes any smiles or smirks he has impossible to see. He is not quick to get a temper and silently enjoys challenges and combat.
Likes/Dislikes:
He loves Martial Arts, and has studied various forms of it from the Soul Society to those in the World of the Living. Most of his time is spent training, honing his body and mind for combat, so that he may always retain his title as Kenpachi. He also has a love for poetry and art, which he believes are one in the same as battle, just different forms of expression. He dislikes insubordinate Shinigami and is one for harsh punishment. He also has no patience for those who lack the resolve to defend themselves, and is a strong purveyor in the "survival of the fittest," mind set. This does not mean he won't defend people, he just would rather seem them try to defend themselves first.
Powers:
Noboru's Zanpakuto's name is Shi Maboroshi (lit. Death Phantom.) In its base form, it appears to be a simple katana, with little splendor and a somewhat ancient rustic look to it. Upon achieving Shikai, the blade changes shape, becoming a machete without any sort of crossguard to protect his hand. This design fits well with his fighting style, as he likes to wield his sword in one hand, and use his off-hand and feet to compliment his attacks. This full-body fighting technique is where he gets his brutal and effective reputation. His Shikai's power is focused on the edge of the Machete. He is able to collect amethyst colored Reiryoku and with swipes of his blade, hurl arcs of the energy out, which will slash through targets easily. His Bankai is called Shi Maboroshi No Kantai (lit. Death Phantom's Fleet.) Upon releasing his Bankai the front of his uniform disintegrates and from the center of his chest six amethyst blades, in the same machete shap as his Shikai, emerge and float around him. This blades are controlled by his mind and he can use them to attack and defend from a safe distance. They are made out of pure reishi and are quite durable.

History (150 words:)
Okuma Noboru was born within Soul Society, to parents who were from a slummy section of the Rukongai. His father died when he was only two years old, killed by a burglar. Distraught and unable to look after her child, his mother abandoned him outside the gates of the Seireitei, where she hoped the Shinigami would take him. He was found by a Shinigami woman named Arana, the Vice-Captain of the 7th Division at the time. Baby Noboru was wailing non-stop. No matter what she tried to do to sooth him, he wouldn't stop. Fearing that there was something seriously wrong, she brought him to the 4th Division headquarters, where he was examined by the healers there. They determined that the child's problem wasn't any sort of sickness, but an immense hunger. Upon feeding baby Noboru, he went to sleep and quieted down.
It was determined that he bad been born with a massive Reiatsu and because of that he would need special attention and plenty of food to grow strong. He was given to foster parents, the Okuma family, which were rich merchants within the Rukongai. They are the ones who named him Noboru and looked after him as if he was their own. He grew up with a proper education and when he was of age, he entered the Shinigami academy.
After graduating the academy, he was placed within the 11th Division, per his request. Where most feared the Division, due to is high causality rate and turn over, he knew it was a place he could forge his combat abilities. On his first mission, to the World of the Living, he was hunting a powerful Hollow and was ambushed and mauled by it. It left terrible wounds all across his body, but most particularly on his lower jaw, which had nearly been torn off with a single swipe.
Arana, who had grown fond of the boy, seeing him grow up and become strong was distraught when he arrived in the 4th Division, tattered up. The healers were able to fix most of his mortal wounds and repair his jaw enough that he could use it still, but there was much cosmetic damage. Arana offered therapy, to remove the scarring Noboru had on the lower part of his face, but he refused it. He kept it, as a reminder of his weakness, and instead decided to don a mask--more for others, who found it difficult to look at his terrible appearance.
As the years passed on, Arana visited Noboru every week, offering to fix his scars. He always refused her, in the most gentle and kind way. They became close friends and he began to see her much like a big sister. He quickly rose through the ranks of the 11th Division, getting the attention of the former Kenpachi Ronu, the God-Fist. Fifty years ago, he finally earned the rank of Vice-Captain, serving at Ronu's side. However, it wasn't long before Noboru himself knew he was more skilled than the Kenpachi, but he refrained from challenging him for the leadership position, preferring to wait and further refine his skills, for fear that other Captains might challenge him for being an upstart.
During the Arrancar invasion of the World of the Living, Noboru earned a fierce reputation, slaughtering many Fraccion and two Espada. However, he has little time to savor his victories, because the Quincy arrived in Soul Society, and launched their terrible invasion. Noboru watched as Ronu was torn apart and stumbled upon a dying Arana. His rage was beyond him and he called upon his Bankai, for the first time, cleaving through three of the Stern Ritter before Captain-Commander Matsumoto slew the Emperor and the Quincy withdrew.
He was made Kenpachi shortly afterward, and as since been mourning the death of Arana, who he felt he failed to protect.
